Orange Rockcorps 2010

Orange Rockcorps 2010

A dynamic Flash video application deployed live to more than 3,300 people at concerts in the UK

The brief

Following the success of last year’s event we were this year again commissioned to create an interface to show video recordings of the Orange Rockcorps concerts, which would be given away on USB keys straight after the event.

What we did

Collaborating with media agency Euro RSCG KLP, we decided to use Adobe Flash and designed the application with full-screen video and a translucent menu.

Items on the menu were dynamically generated from XML as we could not know until the last minute which tracks would be performed – and only a certain amount of data can be burned to the keys in the limited time available.

This isn’t only a video application (though we took considerable care over that side of it) – there is also a dynamic gallery inside the Blackberry™ section. Images for this are loaded sequentially, it centres itself and is geared to the mouse.

The results

The application was a great success, given away to more than 3,000 people. It functioned perfectly, greatly increasing Orange’s kudos with the vital 16-20 age bracket and serving as an ideal memento of the event.

Blinder.tv Website

Blinder.tv

A rich media video intensive website and bespoke Content Management System

The brief

Based in Dublin, Blinder and its auxiliary Blinder Films are leading producers of films and commercials in Ireland. They needed a site which would showcase their work in a medium ideally suited to video. It needed to be rich, immersive, playful and responsive. They also requested to be able to update the site and add new videos and directors independently.

What we did

Blinder.tv was designed by Irish agency New Graphic. They recruited us to build a full-blown Flash website and fullscreen video player. Using a fast means of data transfer, we connected this to a bespoke Content Management System back-end, which we perfectly tailored to their needs.

Next, we ensured that the Flash site was “deep-linked”. This means that the user is able to bookmark any state of the site, as they would do with any other website.

Enhancing this, we implemented a unique solution whereby all of the Flash content is indexable by search engines: the bespoke Content Management System encourages them to crawl and index its pages, but when any other connection is made, it is transparently redirected to the equivalent deep link in the Flash site.

This development also has other special touches: two blog systems are integrated into the site and all mobile devices are detected and catered for as required.

The results

Blinder have seen their traffic rocket as a result of this site. They said:

“We are delighted with the end result and I appreciate the huge amount of work you put into it. It really is a great site.”

Euro RSCG KLP Website

Euro RSCG KLP

A rich media website featuring animation, video, audio, 2D physics and integrated Google map

The brief

Euro RSCG KLP is a marketing agency based in Soho, London and servicing clients including Pepsi and Nokia. We were commissioned to create a rich media website for them, turning their ideas into realities on the screen. The site needed to showcase their projects and be quirky, engaging and responsive.

What we did

We used Adobe Flash (and more than 3,000 lines of ActionScript) to engineer a site which would scale and align flawlessly to fit any monitor resolution. The site is entirely configured from XML files, to the degree that editors can even decide which fonts they wish menu items to use.

We also built a custom media player for the site which displays both images and videos and automatically scales appropriately. We integrated a Google Map into the “Contact” section and used a 2D physics engine to simulate gravity in the “Bounce” section of the site, creating toys which the user can throw around.

We also took care to ensure that the site loaded sections intelligently, notifying the user of progress.

The results

The new Euro RSCG KLP site was much admired both inside and outside the agency. It brought a great deal of animation to the site and successfully projected the image of the company as vibrant, dynamic and creative.
